Community Outreach Model of Education and Training (COMET)

Important Information

COMET aims to link young people who wish to reengage with education by delivering a local alternative education program. This provides the opportunity for young people to gain nationally recognised training equivilent to a school Year 10 standard (Certificate II in General Education Adult) and a Certificate I in Information Technology (TAFE accredited).

In addition young people will gain knowledge and life skills such as cooking, budgeting, positive leisure and social interaction and responsibility. The program is based on flexible learning styles to enable young people to actively set and plan to achieve their own learning outcomes.

In 2008 COMET assisted 52 young people to achieve their Year 10 equivalency, a fantastic achievement when considering many of these young people were once disengaged from mainstream school and had little motivation to return. The majority of these young people also develop the motivation to continue their education once they complete COMET.
