Important Information

TAP provides longer term accommodation in the Perth northern suburbs for young people aged 16 – 21 years.

Unlike TINOCA, TAP is more independent living and there is no youth worker who lives on-site. Instead young people in TAP are externally assisted to maintain and develop their education and employment prospects, while addressing any significant personal and social issues in their lives.

JYSS maintains three TAP properties in the northern suburbs, which each accommodating 3 young people. Young people in TAP are given more freedom and trust to live independently and as such are able to stay in TAP for up to 12 months. During this period they are assisted to acquire long-term, permanent accommodation through either private rentals or other government housing.

As TAP is medium to long term accommodation we do not assist as many young people through this program as TINOCA, however the support they are provided is over a longer period.

During the period January 2009 – July 2009 TAP received 88 requests for accommodation of which 12 young people were accommodated. Similar to TINOCA this meant 86% of requests for accommodate to TAP could not be met due to a lack of space. While many of these young people could be supported in the short-term my TINOCA, it highlights the major lack of accommodation issue facing young people in the area.

Accessing This Service

Referrals to TAP may come from a young person, the family, a professional or other third party. Referrals can be made Monday – Friday from 8:45am – 4:00pm by calling (08) 9300 2677

TAP accepts donations and support from all community members and values the impact these contributions have on the lives of the young people we support.
