The Association's Objectives

To make available the information, practical assistance and contact with community resources to assist young people to re-establish links with their families and their communities;

To provide a supportive environment in which people utilising the services offered by the Association are encouraged and assisted to make decisions about their future through educative processes, raised awareness, new opportunities, skill development and mutual support;

To improve the status of at risk young people, especially those who are homeless and/or disengaged from family and community, through a collaborative approach with Government and community organisations;

To continuously strive to improve the quality of services provided by the Association;

To be actively involved in improving and promoting of health, housing, welfare, legal, education, employment, training and community services for young people;

To encourage individuals, other non-government agencies, businesses and government bodies to be involved with and to assist the Association;

To work with and to support other organisations with similar aims and objectives;

To keep abreast of new developments and trends in the services available for at risk young people and their families; and

To be actively involved with peak coordinating bodies whose aims and objectives are similar to the Association's.

Strategic Objectives 2007 to 2011

1. Young people enjoying better quality of life through provision of basic human needs and access to opportunity.

  • Housing: Provision of a variety of safe, secure and accessible housing for young people.
  • Education/training: Access to flexible and holistic educational and life skills programs.
  • Employment: Addressing the barriers to employment and providing stepping stones to work.
  • ER: Providing access to emergency relief to ensure basic human rights are met.
  • Independence: Ensure programs promote a young persons ability to act independently and take control of their lives.
  • Connection: Link young people to other services and programs that maintains their connection to family and community.

2. Community embraces the value and contribution of young people to the community.

  • Promotion: Maintain a positive profile in the community and with partners.
  • Community development: Ensuring our programs and services remain connected to other providers and relevant to the community.
  • Sector development: Contributing to the development of the profession and wider youth sector.
  • Lobbying: Informing, educating and influencing government, the media and public about youth needs/issues.
  • Local knowledge: Maintaining relevant partnerships and data on local needs, issues, services and strategies.

3. Maintained a responsive organisation to the changing needs in our region.

  • Budget: Maintaining a diverse funding portfolio and budget surplus.
  • Funds development: Growing an equity base that allows JYSS to meet organisational need and provide non-funded services.
  • Service growth: Planning for and implementing new services in response to needs.
  • Program innovation: Evaluating and reflecting on program delivery to ensure quality outcomes for young people.
  • Partnerships development: Developing partnership that enhance the delivery and implementation of JYSS programs and services.
